Kicking up the buzz with one of the hottest topics on the block, we began the semester with a “Residents’ Sharing Series” on the topic of Blockchain technology.
Participants got to know more about the history of Blockchain technology and the fundamentals of how it worked. Timothy shared about how blocks were ‘formed’, and elaborated on mining through a demo of how ‘hashing’ works. While Mei Hui raised case studies and applications of Blockchain technology today, and how ICOs can be a double edged sword.
Timothy is an NCSV alumni whose field of work revolves about data science, AI/ML augmentation and fintech. With his interest in Blockchain and crypto, he started a small hedge fund with a coin portfolio.
Mei Hui is an NCSH alumni who worked in a crypto and blockchain startup while in Shanghai. Her passion for the field brought her back to Singapore to work with Olympus Labs, a blockchain-as-a-service startup. Her LinkedIn profile describes herself as a “Full time student, part time crypto evangelist”.
We ended off the night with questions from the floor, and a hearty exchange with the speakers. The mood was pleasant and many of us walked off that night either too confounded by the topic or raving and eager to learn more about this buzzword topic.
Stay tuned for more in our coming event on Design Thinking.
